Vancouver cops, B.C. watchdog lock horns over cooperation as Ontario mulls jail time for officers who won’t answer questions

A grieving family waits nearly two years for answers. A long and complicated legal process is launched in court. And all because Vancouver police and B.C.’s police oversight agency can’t agree on what it means to cooperate.

In its brief existence, at least two investigations by the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. have been delayed indefinitely because of this dispute. Some observers want the Police Act amended to solve the problem by giving a more detailed explanation of the rights and responsibilities of officers…
